Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL) is one of the world's strictest anti-spam laws. It governs the sending of commercial electronic messages (CEMs) — including text messages — to Canadian recipients. CASL requires that senders obtain consent before sending CEMs, identify themselves clearly, and provide a simple way for recipients to unsubscribe.
LeadCatcher's automated SMS responses are triggered exclusively by inbound contact — meaning a person has already called or texted a business's number first. This inbound-initiated model is a critical distinction under CASL:
All automated messages sent through LeadCatcher clearly identify the business on whose behalf the message is being sent. The business name is included in every outbound message so recipients always know who they are communicating with.
Every automated conversation managed by LeadCatcher honours opt-out requests. If a recipient replies with "STOP", "UNSUBSCRIBE", or similar language, LeadCatcher immediately ceases further automated messaging to that number. Opt-out requests are processed promptly and recorded.
LeadCatcher clients are responsible for ensuring their use of the platform complies with CASL. This includes:
LeadCatcher maintains logs of all automated conversations, opt-out requests, and message timestamps. These records are available to clients upon request and are retained for a minimum of 3 years in accordance with CASL requirements.
If you have received an automated message through LeadCatcher and wish to opt out or raise a concern, please reply "STOP" to any message or contact the business that reached out to you directly. For broader CASL compliance questions, contact LeadCatcher at hello@leadcatcher.ca.
